So............We have had a few average meals here in the past. Tonight was exceptionally wonderful!!!!! We both had the special which was a lobster tail grilled with shrimp. INCREDIBLE!!!!! It was served with rice and a salad of cucumbers, feta, tomato, cilantro with vinegar and oil. Trjple chocolate cake for desert???? SIGN ME UP!!!!!

Somewhat limited menu but there is something for everyone, wife and I both had the ahi sesame tuna and it was excellent, seared to perfection!! Service was great, very tentative and my water glass was never empty. All in all it was good night out in downtown Bay City.

My husband was just in for dinner. Recommend by a friend. He said the food was excellent! Vibrant atmosphere but not too loud. A very friendly staff. Definitely will visit again but with me, next time.

I was in town on business for a work trip. Some co-workers decided we should try this restaurant for dinner. It is very well decorated I love the old wood and the restaurant displaying historical items/photos of the local town. Our waitress was extremely nice and helpful with making our decisions. Our drinks were good and came out very prompt. Food was not to far behind I tried the chicken swharma It wasn't bad the homemade hummus was very tasty. My co-workers opted for some other entrees and theirs looked delicious (artichoke chicken). Price is a bit high but for the town we were in I could see why. Excellent service, decent drinks, good food. I will try again if I am in the area.

I had a great dining experience at Old City hall. It had a great beer selection, and the prices were reasonable for craft beer. The two of us ended up sharing 4 appetizers and each got an a la carte option. The Thai Lettuce Wraps, edamame, duck pot stickers were very good. The calamari was good but not fantastic. I had the curry chicken which I really enjoyed. My dining partner had the Beans and Shrimp dish but he was not a huge fan of it. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.

Lots of beer on tap. Half off crafts on Sundays. That was nice. Food wasn't terrible, but nothing extraordinary. Caesar side salad too pricey at $8. Broccoli cheddar grilled cheese was good. Soups were bland. Seasoned fries were my favorite part. Friendly waiter. Again, not terrible, but forgettable.
(2)Rick R.
One of our favorite places for drinks especially a dirty martini (pictured) and snickertini (my wife loves them). Good size, they fill the glass to the rim, and reasonably priced.
(4)Laura N.
Great beer and wine selection! A wide range of micro brews and domestics. The beef tip skewers are really good and so are the fish tacos and the buffalo chicken wrap. The only downside is that they have never changed their menu.
(4)Jason K.
The food was ok. I had a prime rib sandwich, side casear salad, and a cup of chicken and rice soup. The prime rib sandwich was dry. Apparently they are aware of it, because they serve it with a normally unnecessary bowl of au jus (big thanks to whoever added that to the meal). Made it ok. The casear was good. Good dressing and not overloaded with it. The soup was also good, albeit bland. I was teetering on a third star, but was disappointed by them being out of the Dark Horse Special Black Bier. I understand running out of things, but don't make me order it off the beer menu you just handed me in order to find out that there isn't any.

Visiting family and we were looking for a casual dinner. Packed in the Tuesday night we went - seems Tuesday is half price wine night :) Food and service was great - only constructive is they could have used some more service help...... Overall a great find.

This place was recommended by our hostess at the Webster House. We really enjoyed it. Patrick, our server was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Our food came out fast and was good. The price was very reasonable too. We'd go back.
(5)Robert B.
Outstanding value. For $17 I had an amazing prime rib sammich and local beer. Great selection of wine and beer. Very good service at the bar. Tonight was half price wine. Would recommend for a great value. Superb

I was in town on business and looking for a nice place to eat for dinner. Old City Hall did not disappoint. The place was very busy, surprising for a snowy winter night, however they were able to accommodate for two of us. The place is split into two areas, a bar and a restaurant. Almost all the seats in the bar area were full, multiple big screen TVs showing sports, and a nice atmosphere. Everyone was having a good time. The restaurant noise level was surprisingly lower, especially considering there is only a wall seperating the two areas and no closed doors. The food was excellent, much better than we had expected. Staff were attentive and friendly but not over bearing. I will definitely come back the next time I am in town.

I have been here multiple times with a lot of different crowds and just can't fid what everyone loves about this place. Their menu never changes. Never. The craft beer is ok but the selection is the same other than seasonal a. The prices for domestics is way to much too. Overall when I go here, I try to try something different but I'm never satisfied. Their nachos and beef skewers are good. So is the pad Thai but that's it for me.

I'm a fan of Old City Hall. Me and my gal pals like to dine here from time to time and reminisce while admiring the space (brick walls, art, fish tank) and the good food. We were back at OCH over the weekend on a busy Saturday night for dinner. We started with a bottle of Michigan wine (they have several from which to choose), and others ordered beer from their large drink menu. Again, more local (MI) beers. I always appreciate restaurants that serve local beverages and food. To start, we split the lettuce chicken wraps, and we all gobbled those up. Yummy. I chose the chicken quesadilla cobb salad as my entree. Chx quesadilla cobb salad? Yes - there's a lot going on there - but it all works, and it was delicious. I could go for another one right now... Other entrees from surf & turf, to seafood pasta were enjoyed by all. This place is a nice mix between casual and upscale for a fun night out. There's also a side bar area (where you enter restaurant) that you can hang out in if you're not having dinner. However, I've always enjoyed the dinner, so go and eat and drink and be merry.

Good food, Great beer menu.
(3)Michael S.
This place recently started doing whiskey tastings and wine tastings in their private dining room with the chef. It's a great informal addition to things. The bartenders and staff make you feel welcome and are incredibly friendly.
(5)Josh S.
Best restaurant and bar in the Tri-Cities. Awesome drink specials for both beer and wine, great food, and great service. Half-off wine Mon-Tue, half-off beer Wed-Thurs. Plus a large selection of both. The food is great. Some of my favorites are the french dip, calamari, and Pad Thai.
(5)Aaron K.
Ok so, i'm from Ann Arbor and a little fussy about food etc. I feel like this place was a great find for Bay City. (sorry bay city) great food, service and above average ambiance. The tomato bisque was delicious. also the Rib Eye was cooked just how i like , MR with a good sear on the exterior. the rye whiskey cocktail was good enough to order a 3rd one.... anyway, a solid place, 5 star worthy, hope you check it out and enjoy!
(5)Marry N.
The drinks here are very good and they carry the higher end vodkas and gins which is nice because a lot of other bars in bay city don't. I had the French martini and it was quite delicious. Being from southern ca, my standards are a little higher, so this neighborhood bar reminded me of home. The food here is just ok. I believe their food is overpriced and the quality just isn't there. But then again, bay city michigan doesn't have a lot high quality food options. If you're from a big city like me, you're just going to have to settle.
(4)J G.
I've visited several times with Friends and Family. Solid service and great quality food. Good for meetings and dates. Try it!
(5)Kyle K.
One star is harsh because the food and drinks are amazing, but my gripe is that i can't get seated without reservations. At 5:15 pm, we walked in and there were only two tables filled, yet they told us they were booked (some reservations started at 8!). This has happened to us a couple times before as well. Sure, it's not hard to make reservations, but we have two young kids and usually don't know beforehand if we will have someone to watch our kids so we can go out. Guess they love turning away $100 tabs. :(

I was thinking that I might be out of luck when it came to a fine dining experience in a Bay City. I was in the area for work and was not having much luck since the area itself is rather run down and depressed. However- Old City Hall delivered!!!! Great food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food and drinks, believe it or not, we're actually underpriced. The service was not five stars and had some room for improvement- however, I was by myself so it wasn't really that big of a deal. I would highly recommend this place and I will be back!
(4)Mark S.
Went for dinner on Saturday night about 7:30pm. We were told that we needed a reservation, so we sat in the bar. No big deal except there were about 5-6 empty tables that were never filled the entire time. Service was excellent and beer selection was adequate. Tried the Curry Chicken which was good but not great. Good spice but a little lacking in flavor. SS had the Chicken nachos. Also good, but lacking some kick.
(3)Caroline C.
My fiancé and I enjoyed a great meal at Old City Hall. We are new to the area (living in Midland) and were happy to find a cool local spot as opposed to all the chain restaurant options. Great atmosphere and we both enjoyed our meals and cocktails. We will definitely be back!
(4)Patricia V.
This is a good place to eat with a great location and atmosphere. Inside the ambiance is very comfortable. The tomato bisque is excellent. Burgers are good. Drinks are good and appetizers not great but fair. The service we had was efficient and had a great attitude, assisting us on what was a good option on the menu. Salmon was the choice and we liked it. If you come at night, you may want to make a reservation. We will be back.
(4)Caleb E.
Well, used to be one of our favorite places to eat in the bay area. Food is excellent, drinks are great, prices are competitive. The reason we will not be returning: THE SERVICE IS HORRID. And this is not just due to one single event, this has happened on multiple occasions. If you plan on giving someone menus, you should promptly take a drink order, not 15/20 minutes later; all in all I think we waited approximately 35 minutes (for the server to take our food order) before we decided to go to another restaurant. I think we will be going down the street from now on... I have decided to upgrade my rating due to good secondary customer service from management. They go the distance to help assist unhappy customers. Thank you.
(3)Rachel T.
Great place in a small town where you can find incredible food and listen to jazz. I would easily give this five stars for the location and the food. Service was great too! Everything we ate was wonderful and they made me a fantastic martini (Grey Goose, up, dirty with blue cheese olives). Perfect and to my specifications. Also a really decent beer/wine list is available. Old City Hall is obviously a very popular place for evening drinking and dining and is highly recommended throughout Bay City. Our experience fit the recommendation. We'll be back if we are ever in the area and for the meal we had for three people it cost us less than half as much as we would have paid for the same dining experience for two in Downtown Chicago.
(4)Paul D.
Best dining in the Tri- Cities...Service was a little slow because the server we had but the food made up for it...Craft beer selection was great and the martinis were even better...Dinner was the best I ever had and the manager made up for the delay with a shot on the house...Great atmosphere and great place

We went to Old City Hall based on a recommendation from our hotel for a nice place to go on our anniversary. We were greeted with two hostesses who firmly told us we needed a reservation (who does reservations in 2014?). Many tables were empty, and remained empty our whole visit. Didn't offer for us to sit in the bar, so we stood there awkwardly until we asked if we could, they half-heartedly said yeah, I guess so. Eating our dinner at the bar was awkward, and the bartender gave us bartender attention, not server attention (which makes sense, but lessened our experience). Food was nothing out of the ordinary. Need to focus on customer service/experience.

Old City Hall is one of the best places to dine and drink in Bay City. You can't beat the atmosphere. This building once housed the City Hall in the days of yore. Ask about the history and the ghost that haunts it. My faves are the Tomato Bisque (it cannot be replicated, NO one comes close) and the wild mushroom risotto. The calamari is to die for as well. Not frozen battered stuff, but actual large hunks of squid lightly coated and served with two sauces. The menu changes with the season, wine and beer lists are excellent and offer many premium liquors. They offer wine flights of the US and the world, fun for tastings. My only complaint would be more vegetarian options. I always take out of town guests to OCH.

This at one time was my favorite restaurant but sadly now is a place I will no longer go to. I come from a much larger city and when I moved to this area 2 years ago, was extremely happy to find what I felt at that time was a diamond in the rough!! I actually became good friends with one of the wait staff because I would come all the time, sadly she is no longer there. The decor is great, the food good and the prices are excellant! I have worked in a 5 star restaurant in Grand Rapids so I can appreciate what OCH is trying to do here. One of the big issues I have is Parker the bartender....DUDE YOU ARE A BARTENDER, NOT A CELEBRITY get over yourself because you did not exactly set the world on fire!! I do not like going into the bar area and having to wait for a drink, I am sorry but I usually tip 50% when it comes to drinks when I want to grab a beer or some wine with a couple friends, but the last time I was there I had to wait seriously for 20 minutes before he would even grace me with his presence! Honestly the dude has a serious attitude problem! The other bar staff were equally as rude, granted I was not as old as the other customers, I do feel that being ignored for that long is unacceptable, and management? Is there a manager, if so I have never met one, so I felt that making a complaint would be a waste of my time. When ever I have out of town guests we opt out of Old City Hall and instead head to Molly's in Midland.

I had an interesting meal here a few weeks ago. I had no idea Bay City had charm in the way of quirky downtown buildings and clean streamlined places like Old City Hall. They offered a variable menu from Thai lettuce wraps to steak and lobster. Everything I tried was pretty decent and the portions were huge. I'd enjoy another outing here in the near future. The only problem was that our food was too big for the tiny 2 seat table.
(4)Brett G.
I think that the Menu has changed since I last visited Old City Hall. I had the Red Curry Chicken. It was very good, and I will get it again. My wife had a wrap of some sort, and she loved it as well, she said it was a bit spicier than she expected, but still good. She also had a glass of wine and loved that as well. The frys were amazing. The downside is that we did not make reservations so we were in close quarters with other couples, and the whole bar was quite loud. Next time I will remember to reserve a table. The food was still served hot and fast even though it was packed.

I am unimpressed with my first visit. Everything was off....at least for my portion of the meal. The three of us ventured into Old City Hall for dinner. The crab cake appetizer is tiny - two patties for $10. The flavor was great so four stars there. We got a basket of four rolls, which quickly ran out. When the waitress came to check on our table, she took the paper in the bread basket but not the basket itself, which was odd, as she didn't get us a refill. I ordered the medallion in two sauces. When the plate came out i cut into one piece of beef, which was pink in the middle (I ordered medium) and to my satisfaction. The other piece however, was well done, not to mention it was obviously not a medallion, more like a cheap piece of steak that has been overcooked. To make it worse, it was sitting in some unsavory and very salty brown sauce. I ended up returning it back to the kitchen. The replacement was good and I could tell it was the same cut of meat as the other medallion. Overall I am unimpressed with the brisk service and the food quality

This is my new favorite place to have lunch when I'm in Bay City. I really enjoy the decor and how comfortable it is to dine in. Their menu is not overly complicated and the flavor is great. The service was friendly an attentive and food ticket times are quick. I have never been here for dinner or drinks but I'm sure the service carries over in to dinner. I highly recommend Old City Hall of you are in Bay City and looking for lunch.
(4)John T.
Something for everyone. I hade the Korean Steak and Egg. Nice spice and flavor. Good beer selection. Dark wood atmosphere. Would return to try other menu items.

Old City Hall is a good place for business entertaining, a date or a special occasion dinner. The beer, wine and drink selection is extensive and the meals were really good this time. While the service has been spotty in the past, we had excellent service this time and we were happy with our dinner. It is living up to the "fine dining" in it's "casual fine dining" catch phrase. eatingthemitten.wordpres…
(4)Ks K.
Tomato soup was awesome. Potato soup was too bland for me. Service varies in experience & helpfulness. One of the nicer places in Bay City. Great atmosphere, beautiful old building, fish tank was cool.
(3)John K.
Excellent food, great atmosphere, can get a little crowded on the bar side. Make reservations early if you plan on having dinner.
(5)Brandie D.
I've been to Old City Hall a few times now, so I feel like I have enough data points to provide a 3 star rating. I wanted to give them more...but I just can't. Sure, it's a great place to get pretty good food and great cocktails in a beautiful space, but there's a lot that they can improve on. I'll start with the good...the lobster hush puppies are terrific and the dipping sauce is a perfect pairing. Not sure what it is, but it's a little tangy and I like it! The mahi mahi with saffron pilaf is pretty good, but don't call your pilaf saffron if there's not enough saffron to actually taste it. It's just not right. I tried a friend's veal dish with large tortellini and wished I had ordered that instead. The pasta tastes like its homemade and hand prepared, very fresh. Good wine selection and pretty tasty martinis. Now the bad....one time we went to have drinks and were treated horribly by the staff. Get over yourself, you're a mediocre restaurant in a tri-city area that only has a few nice restaurants. The last time we went, hoping to catch up with friends, there was a loud band playing right near our table (before 10pm) and we couldn't even carry on a conversation...but instead had to listen to the crappiest Matchbox Twenty cover band and watch wasted cougars on the prowl. But it gets worse.... The waitress brought out everyone's food (we had a table of 7 for my birthday dinner) except for my mahi mahi. She looked at me and said "it'll be 5 minutes"...but it was more like 15 or 20. Everyone was eating as slow as they could to allow time for me to catch up, but my meal never showed and the waitress ignored us. She should've offered a cup of soup if you ask me. THEN, I flag her down for another glass of wine...I asked for a Malbec and she said they were out, so I got a sav blanc instead. Five minutes later...while I"m still waiting for my food...a friend ordered a Malbec and somehow she was able to fulfill his order. I gave her a stare, then she said "oops" and brought me a glass of Malbec. By this time I was irate! So I went in search for a manager, only to be intercepted by my horrible waitress. She admitted that she FORGOT to put my order in and that my food was on its way to the table. She probably should've admitted this from the beginning...but whatever. My meal arrived, she said she'd comp me for my drinks and anticipated dessert order....but I insisted that she should be responsible for the entire meal. This might have been the worst dining experience I've ever had....thanks OCH. Try to get your act together, play your loud crappy music later in the night, and for goodness sakes keep the cougars away from my food.
(3)Tony D.
My wife and I visit OCH at least monthly. The good wine and food keep bringing us back. The coffee encrusted filet is to die for. Love their wings and beer selection. For the most part the service has been good but is not consistent. One guy ( wish I knew his name ) is very attentive and personable but everyone else just seem too busy to go the extra mile. The food though out weighs the ok service and would continue recommending it to friends.
(4)Shawn M.
I moved to Bay City from Denver, CO and along with the Rocky Mountains, one of the things I miss most is access to a wide variety of great food. I first went to OCH shortly after moving here 7 years ago and I've never stopped going. I have lunch or dinner at OCH at least a couple of times a week and I'm never disappointed. Great food (especially the red curry, Thai lettuce wraps and Korean Steak & Eggs), great service and an excellent craft beer selection cement OCH as one of my favorite spots to eat or just hang out with friends and have a few drinks.
(5)Alissa H.
OCH has a nice selection of Michigan brewery beers and very reasonable happy hour specials on top of an extensive wine list. The food is excellent, especially the seared ahi tuna, lettuce wraps, and tomato bisque. I agree with some of the other reviews that the timing of the service can leave something to be desired though. Anytime I've been part of a group of more than 3 people, our food comes out at different times. Not just a few minutes apart, but sometimes 15 to 20 minutes apart for entrees off the lunch menu (sandwiches, salads, etc.). The last time we went we had a waiter that I think was new, Aaron, who was the best server we've had during our many visits to OCH and helped me forget about some not so great server experiences we've had there. Even with the uneven timing of the entrees, we still go back frequently because the quality of the food is great and the atmosphere is very enjoyable.
(4)George F.
Hands down five stars for the area. The food is fresh, well prepared and interesting. The beer and wine list hits the spot too. We are new to the area and found this place very welcoming and comparable with our favorite restaurants in la, San Fran, ny and dc. Probably not five stars by those standards, but not far off. Check it out.
(5)Craig L.
If you've got two hours to kill, enjoy mediocre service, and have no experience with fine dining done right, then this is the place for you. Pardon my attitude, but I have been dragged to this restaurant on several occasions and have never had a good dining experience. Here is the only way you will not be disappointed when eating at Old Shi#%y Hall: order a burger and wings; they are excellent.
(2)Lettie J.
Went to this place for a wedding the other day. I had never visited in the past. Food was pretty good, nothing too memborable though. The wine list was pretty impressive though. Lots to choose from in that area. That would bring me back.
(3)Ken R.
Great casual dinning. Good food, good wine, GREAT value.
(5)Jay K.
Excellent food and service for out-of-towners. Very trendy for business or just grabbing a beer. I heard the lamb is awesome! The tomato bique was delicious.
(5)Cee B.
Love their jumbalaya (excuse my spelling).
(3)Jennifer S.
Had a wonderful experience at Old City Hall tonight for dinner. The ambiance is cozy, wine bar/restaurant cool. We walked in and the bar area was packed. Apparently for 1/2 price wine night (bar only!) No seats were available so we sat in the restaurant but the prices of the glasses of wine were already less than 1/2 of what they'd cost back home in Chicago it was still a great bargain! I had the salmon which was encrusted in pepper and other delicious spices served over a luxurious mango/butter sauce. It was a huge portion but moist and tasty. My colleague tried the cobb salad which he said was one of the best he's ever had. Our server Athena was friendly, attentive and added to our experience. If you find yourself in Bay City this is the place to try!
(4)Dallas M.
They have a great wine selection, really good food options for dinner as well. They are definitely very pricey, but it's a really nice place. We have good service whenever we go there. I also just recently found out about their "sushi weekends" with all you can eat sushi for $14.99. I am not sure how long this will last but I plan to check it out!
(4)sandra b.
The owner from Timothy's Fine Cigars recommend this restaurant and he was correct, it was fabulous! The service was excellent, the decor was fun and tasteful, and the food was delious and filling. We would definitely eat here again if we are ever in the Bay City area.
(4)Emily S.
The staff was very accommodating. The Bloody Mary sucked. For a restaurant that had such a variety of food options, you would think their Bloody Mary would be something to brag about, instead I just wanted to send it back. It lacked interesting garnishes and needed celery salt on the rim. The shawarma was good. Not very authentic, but I enjoyed it. I'm not sure if I'll return.
(4)C F.
Very pleasent place. Good choice. Fresh food. Nice waitress. We had a nice dinner. For once the portions are reasonnable and not served for hungry linebackers!
(4)Hal R.
I got the buffalo chicken wrap and shared two apps with the table. We got the hummus and the duck pot stickers. This place has a unique feel to it. The exposed brick reminds me of home. i really enjoyed it. The service was great. There isn't a single thing I can complain about. He worked his butt off and got everything correct without a single mistake. That was all without using a note pad. Bravo. The hummus was ok. I am not a huge hummus guy so I won't comment further. The duck pot stickers were fantastic! This is a must get. Tons of flavor, but no where near overbearing. The buffalo chicken wrap was surprisingly delicious. I was upset with my choice because I thought I was playing it safe. I was wrong. They are breaded tenders, but not terribly. The tortilla wrap was perfect and the ranch was great. I was quite pleased. I can't say anything bad at all about this place. I am not sure what it keeping me from writing a five star review here, but I feel like four is just right. Keep up the good works everyone. I definitely wouldn't mind returning.
(4)Jairis J.
Best Callimari I have had in Michigan ! I have found some of the best places to eat with Yelp, that this was no different. Loved the building, seemed to be a very popular place. My only disappointment, was I had a very big chunk out of the top of my glass. My server made not one attempt to even pretend she was one bit sorry. I had drank about 1/2 of my water before I noticed, and when I showed her she just said "oh".
(4)Amy S.
Sat in the bar area on a Saturday night for dinner. We ordered the lettuce wraps as an appetizer. They were fresh and delicious. I ordered the artichoke chicken for dinner, it was awesome. He had the red curried chicken and it was very flavorful. Service was great. I highly recommend this restaurant.
(5)Tracie R.
Heard it was good so we tried it. Not at all impressed. Two of us had the rib eye medium rare, both came out medium-medium well. We sent them back and they were then prepared correctly but full of gristle and fat. Taste was good but hard to cut through. Husband had the ahi and he said it was good but he's had better. Hard to get refills on the drinks.
(2)Shay D.
Great place to have a drink or dinner. Very unique dishes and appetizers. Fun and relaxing atmosphere and good food.
